At the beginning of the year, I moved into a furnished apartment on the island of Tenerife. While I was grateful that I didn't have to start from scratch, buying loads of furniture for an apartment I was not sure how long I was going to rent, it came with a few challenges for me.
I am one of those people who highly depend on their environment when it comes to feeling at ease. I need a space that feels calm, is organised and clean, with as little distractions as possible.
Now this apartment came with a few traits, that in my world were...I am sorry...really unaesthetic. A flashy blue wall color, red sofas, and some of these signs in a "Live, laugh, love" fashion that I absolutely needed to get rid of.
After stripping it of what I am sure was well intended as cozy decoration, I was then left with a place that felt rather sterile and had no soul at all.
Well, it came in handy that I own a shop for home décor! Just adding a few little details, some pillows and throws, a few baskets and plants. It completely changes the atmosphere. And it got me thinking: you really don't have to invest a lot of money to give your home a touch of "You" and a touch of meaning. A few items that are well chosen and represent your aesthetics and values make all the difference!
